I create worlds inspired by medieval
altarpieces--the multi-panelled boxes that celebrated the work and death of saints and martyrs. Instead of the
usual religious iconography, I paint stories of life in inhospitable places and perseverance where none is expected.
In addition to these images, I employ garbage, which also tends to last much longer than expected and makes an
excellent symbolic medium. I reconstruct old wooden drawers into boxes, paint on gessoed scraps of old fabric,
and add remains--fish skeletons, dead insects, hair, seeds--as souvenirs of life.
